Women’s History Month
March is Women’s History Month, and we want to recognize the essential women that make M.U.S.T. successful — the mothers of the Mentees. Every mother is significant to our program, and this year, we are highlighting Ms. Quisa Wright, mother to Elijah, who is in his first year of the M.U.S.T. program.
A little about Ms. Wright, in her own words:
Her experience with having her son be a part of M.U.S.T.:
My experience in having my son with M.U.S.T. has been phenomenal. The Mentor my son received goes above and beyond. He is there for trying times as well as triumphs. My son, Elijah,
is lucky to have him.
On finding her own liberation:
I would say I have found my liberation. The beginning of the school year was a difficult and [an] unexpected transition for my son. My expectations of him are very high, so I wanted minimal errors. However, I understand that the true testament has [been] patience and time. I now allow my son space to become his own person rather than constantly reminding him of who I expect.
Advice for the next generation for finding their own liberation:
BE ENCOURAGED! Mistakes are just lessons learned. Be communicative. Advocate for yourself and remember bad company corrupts great character; BE YOU UNAPOLOGETICALLY.
